200 Years of Makers
The Brooklyn Navy Yard has been a hotbed of industry in New York City for over 200 years. At its peak in World War II, the 300-acre Yard supported over 70,000 workers per day (earning it the nickname “The Can-Do Shipyard”), and built ships including the USS Arizona and the USS Missouri.

A New Kind of Industry
Today’s Navy Yard no longer builds ships—instead, its rows of brick buildings have become incubators for Brooklyn’s fast-growing creative industry. Today, 330 companies employ over 7,000 people, whose ranks include artists and designers, metalworkers and coffee roasters, robotics engineers and rooftop farmers. The Navy Yard is home to Steiner Studios, as well as NYC’s oldest whiskey distillery.

The Navy Yard: The Center of Innovation
With Dock 72 as the anchor, the Navy Yard’s revitalization as a center for 21st century innovation is just beginning. The neighborhood is rapidly developing and new, sustainability-minded companies are joining our ranks by the day. The reimagined Green Manufacturing Center is a model for sustainable industry; Building 77 will provide a sprawling artisanal food hall anchored by Russ & Daughters and Brooklyn Brewery; Steiner Studios is doubling their footprint; and a new 74,000 square foot Wegmans is now opened.
