The Brooklyn Navy Yard, site of the most recent debate between Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, is in the process of a complete reinvention. The 300-acre yard is the target of a concentrated development project spearheaded by the City of New York and the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation. When complete, the new Brooklyn Navy Yard will feature a food court occupied by the likes of Russ & Daughters Cafe, Brooklyn Roasting Company, and Mast Brothers Chocolate Makers; the first New York City location of popular upstate grocery chain, Wegmans; manufacturers such as FXE Industries, which makes motorcycles; and numerous startups at Dock 72, a 675,000-square-foot, high-tech office building that will be anchored by coworking innovator WeWork.
